KM Strategic Plan Development
Working with you to interpret the assessment results, we will co-develop a strategic approach and implementation plan for developing and sustaining knowledge management within your organization.
Successful KM initiatives address technology, process, and culture (and resist the temptation to over-emphasize technology). The assessment results will identify strengths and weaknesses in these three areas, and your KM Strategic Plan will play to your strengths and repair (or avoid) your weaknesses.
- carefully chosen pilot and demonstration projects—likely surfaced during the assessment exercise (see discussion here), there will be at dozens to choose from so it becomes important to take a phased approach, addressing them in batches;
- carefully chosen personnel—the overall KM project manager must be a well-respected credible insider (probably a long-term employee), with project management and “people” skills, and who has an affinity for KM concepts. Similarly, early pilot/demo projects need to have their own champion/managers.
- an integrated communication plan—making changes in work processes and your company culture can be slow work. It requires constant attention, and an orchestrated consistent communications strategy. The communications plan will publicize management’s commitment to the KM initiative, will highlight the early successes (from pilot/demo projects), and will re-emphasize the need for knowledge-sharing “behavior” at every teachable moment.
